I received a BA in Art with a specificity in Graphic Design from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and realized my passion is bridging the gap between art and technology. Subsequent to graduation, I was offered a position as University Staff, in the University of Hawai'i’s Information Technology Services Department, as a Front End Web Developer and User Interface/User Experience Designer, where I gained four years of application development experience in a team oriented environment. Some of my responsibilities included creating web related graphics, print work, HTML mock-up pages, conceptual interface design, and flow-chart development.I moved to NYC for Designer/Developer position with a New York based Advertising Technology company, of which I have been with for five years. At this company, I developed striking creative projects ranging from business webpages to captivating and interactive creative playable advertisements. Often I would harness my creative vision to design graphic assets used in retargeting ad campaigns. Using my knowledge of JavaScript, and HTML, I would write code to create the engaging playables. These playables create user experiences that not only capture users' attention, but also drive measurable results and profits for clients in the ad retargeting domain.

I have previously worked with Blake for 5 years and served as his immediate supervisor at Information Technology Services at the University of Hawai'i. I have been at the University for more than 25 years and I hired Blake in 2013 to be our department’s head graphic designer for web-based applications. He took the initiative to learn new technologies to expand his skill set, which in turn made it easier on the developers to take what he built as is so they could implement the business requirements of each project. Blake demonstrated his ability to create user friendly layouts and visually appealing front end design for web applications that my group develops. He learned new technologies such as Bootstrap and JQuery to expand his skill set. This was a big help to the developers because they could simply take his designs and plugin web service API calls. Blake also worked well with other divisions in our department and he was a dependable resource when it came to our departments' website redesign initiative.
During his time working with our company, Blake Hixson completed several demanding web design projects and wrote informative articles about contemporary trends in web design. His portfolio that includes work for the Rabbit Kekai Foundation in Hawai'i and Gifts for Life demonstrates his concern for education and solid non-profit causes. With our team at BSP, Blake offered various original web design proposals, we made our selections, and he created the sites promptly. He was always open to design input suggestions and we tried to offer ideas during the early development stages of the websites, rather than once they were almost finished.
